Winnipeg school group safe in Paris after attacks

WINNIPEG — Seven students and two teachers from Vincent Massey Collegiate are safely awaiting their flight home in Paris.

The school group was visiting as part of an exchange program.

They had been staying at private homes but on Friday, the night of the attacks, they had all gathered at a hotel in preparation for their flight home.

While the hotel was located in the city, the group was “safe at all times” and “not in the immediate vicinity” of any attacks, said Ted Fransen, Superintendent of the Pembina Trails School Division.

The students and teachers are “holding up well under the circumstances,” said Fransen.

The students and their parents have been in contact with each other throughout the weekend.

The group is still scheduled to catch their flight home on Monday.
