Police are looking for a man alleged to have stolen a poppy donation box right under a legionnaire’s nose.
Coquitlam RCMP say at 11:35 a.m. on Nov. 3, they were called to a supermarket in the 1300-block of Lougheed Highway.
About 10 minutes earlier, a man entered the store and approached the poppy donation collector, who is a 84-year-old legionnaire. The suspect first put in some change and walked away. However, he quickly returned, allegedly picked up the collection can and fled on a bicycle.
The suspect is described as:
- a Caucasian male in his mid-40s,
- about 5’7″ tall and 150 lbs, and
- with stubble on his face.
At the time, he was wearing:
- a blue Blue Jays ball cap,
- blue jacket, and
- black pants.

Cpl. Jamie Chung with the Coquitlam RCMP says this is not something that is unheard of in the Coquitlam RCMP’s jurisdiction.
“However, this is the first time this year that we have this type of file,” he said.
“This is one of the most important seasons to collect funds to help the veterans. The funds they collect are vital to the wellbeing of the veterans so this is a very serious crime.”
