VERNON — Another vehicle fire is being investigated in Vernon and officials believe it is suspicious.
Fire fighters and RCMP were called to the 3400 block of 35 Avenue around 1:30 Monday morning where they found a pick up truck on fire.
“Flames were going on the front of the vehicle at the time we arrived,” says Deputy Fire Chief Jack Blair.
“A lot of heavy, thick black smoke, lot’s of flames, tires started to pop. This one seemed to be focused on the engine area not so much in the passenger part of the vehicle.”

This is the third time this month crews have been called to similar vehicle fire incidents in Vernon and it’s the fifth vehicle that has been destroyed by fire in the city in the past week and a half.

A suspicious fire destroyed three vehicles on October 14 on Davidson Road in Vernon. A van, a station wagon and a cube truck were involved.
On October 19, RCMP and the fire department attended to a burning pickup truck (pictured above) at Rising View Way and Okanagan Hills Boulevard.
“I don’t know what posses people to want to do this but some people will pick cars for their targets, most of these cars have been older vehicles,” says Blair.
Blair says it’s not known whether the incidents are related. Police are hoping tips from the public with help their investigation.
“Very hot, toxic smoke gets up in the air and it poses a risk to everyone from firemen to bystanders in the area,” says Blair.
