CALGARY – Kyle Clapham got a bit of a surprise when he looked out the front window of his southwest Calgary home Monday morning.
“I thought it might’ve been a police officer on a horse. But then I saw the head,” he said.
A large moose was on the run throughout Calgary’s Oakridge community, near Southland Dr. S.W. and 24 St. S.W.
“It just went to another front yard, sat down under a tree and rested for about 10 minutes,” said Clapham, who said a neighbourhood door slammed soon after and the moose ran off.

“It was a little unusual for sure.”
Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Brendan Cox said the moose was an adult cow that made its way about four kilometres from South Glenmore Park at 10:30 a.m. to Woodbrook Way by 2:45 p.m., when officers caught up with it and shot it with a tranquilizer gun.

In between the moose ran into a condo complex off of Oakfield Drive, but caused no damage, Cox said. Officials believe the moose traveled along the Elbow River, since rivers and nearby green spaces are natural wildlife corridors.
Cox said anyone who sees a moose should back away slowly and try to put obstacles between themselves and the moose. He suggests making your way to a more populated area or into a home, and asks you to phone the Report A Poacher hotline at 1-800-642-3800.
