EDMONTON — Two days after a Canada-wide warrant was issued, RCMP arrested 28-year-old Jordan Joseph Wendland in B.C. in relation to a fatal stabbing in a northern Alberta community.
Wendland was wanted on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of second-degree murder stemming from an incident early Sunday morning in Sexsmith, Alta.
Officers responded to a report of multiple stabbings at the Alamo bar in Sexsmith, shortly after 1 a.m.
Four people were injured in the stabbing. They were all taken to hospital where one person died of their injuries.
On Monday, RCMP issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of Wendland, who they said sometimes uses the surname Cesena.
Police said they received tips from the public which allowed them to find Wendland, who they believe left Sexsmith and was headed to Lower Mainland B.C.
Early Wednesday morning, RCMP in Chilliwack, B.C. tracked him to a home there, kept the residence under surveillance and contained the scene.
At approximately 6:20 a.m., the Emergency Response Team went inside and arrested Wendland without incident.
He is currently in custody. A date for his first appearance in court has not yet been determined.
Sexsmith is located about 20 kilometres north of Grande Prairie.
