Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on Sask. highway

RCMP are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision on Highway 16 near Maidstone, Sask. Google Maps

Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday on Highway 16. Mounties were called to the crash scene just east of Maidstone around 8:20 p.m. CT.

Officials have confirmed that the male pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle. The victim’s identity is not yet known.

Police are trying to determine why the pedestrian was in the travelling lane on the highway. An RCMP collision analyst from Saskatoon was called to help.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and contacted police.

RCMP say the driver had not been drinking.

The Maidstone Fire Department assisted RCMP in re-routing eastbound traffic on Highway 16 into the westbound lane for approximately three kilometres from Maidstone.
