Youth cyclist sent to hospital after north Edmonton collision

EDMONTON – A young cyclist was sent to hospital Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle in north Edmonton.

The collision happened on 66 Street and 137 Avenue around 8:40 a.m.

Police said the cyclist is a youth. She suffered what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries after being hit by an SUV as she crossed 66 Street in a marked crosswalk near 144 Avenue.

She was wearing a helmet, according to police.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

Motorists were asked to avoid 66 Street northbound between 137 Avenue and 144 Avenue while police investigated.

The road was reopened in the early afternoon.
