CALGARY – Several people inside a Rundle home were able to safely escape a house fire that sparked on Monday.
Firefighters were called to the 600 block of Rundleridge Drive N.E. at around 9 a.m.
When they arrived, crews found flames and smoke coming from the rear of the house.
Five people were at home at the time.
“They did not hear a smoke alarm,” said Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department. “One of them had stepped outside and saw smoke coming from the roof.”
“It is so incredibly important to have working smoke alarms,” she added.
Crews used an elevated platform to fight the blaze from above, and were able to find fire hidden in the walls and attic with the use of a thermal imaging camera.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Calgary Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
