Mitchell was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said at a press conference a week after his death that he was shot with “high velocity ammunition” that went through his body and that he was killed “execution style.”

“Considering there were a number of people standing in the immediate area of the shooting, we are very fortunate that no one else was shot,” Det.-Sgt. Brian Borg said at the time.
