TORONTO – Police are looking to identify three suspects they say are connected to the shooting death of a man near a Toronto community centre last month.

Neeko Mitchell, 25, was shot multiple times just after 8 p.m. in front of the North Kipling Community Centre on Rowntree Rd., near Kipling and Finch Avenue in Rexdale on Nov. 24.

Police say he had just arrived to attend a basketball tournament when he was killed.

“Neeko Mitchell was shot numerous times with a high velocity ammunition none of which remained in his body,” said Detective Sergeant Brian Borg at a press conference Wednesday. “Considering there were a number of people standing in the immediate area of the shooting, we are very fortunate that no one else was shot.”

The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators say surveillance footage obtained from the community centre show two men and one woman involved in the shooting.

“Investigative efforts so far have not been able to definitively identify who these three persons are,” said Det. Sgt. Borg.

Police have asked anyone present or who may have seen the victim prior to or after the shooting to come forward.

“There were many people at the basketball tournament that night and who were present when Neeko Mitchell was shot and killed. Very few have come forward to police,” he said.
