RCMP probe possible connection between Blairmore murders and Coleman homicide

CALGARY – RCMP investigating the murder of Blairmore residents Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and Terry Blanchette are exploring any possibility they could be connected to the death of a 69-year-old woman in the nearby community of Coleman.

Hanne Meketech was found dead in her home last Wednesday morning, and RCMP say an autopsy confirmed her death is a homicide.

Global News has confirmed that Meketech lived next door to the grandparents of Derek Saretzky, the accused in the Blairmore homicides.

RCMP say at this time they have no information to suggest the two cases are connected, but are exploring all possible angles.

RCMP are not yet releasing Meketech’s cause of death to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Terry Blanchette, 27, was found dead inside his Blairmore home on Monday. His two-year-old daughter Hailey was taken, prompting an Amber Alert. The next day, RCMP found Hailey’s remains in a rural area.

Blairmore and Coleman are located approximately six kilometres apart.
