WATCH: Last month, a drone store in Vancouver was targeted by thieves — first, stealing the wallet and ID of a store employee, then getting away with thousands of dollars in equipment. Thieves were back today, and as Nadia Stewart explains, in an even more aggressive way.
It’s been a tough month for Drones Plus.
The drone retail store, which recently expanded to Canada, was broken into two weeks ago, with the thieves taking more than $15,000 in property.
It came a day after a clerk at the store also had her wallet stolen when she was closing up.
Now, the company will have to purchase new doors, after would-be thieves attempted to break in early this morning by backing vehicles into the store.
“They tried the truck but it would not fit through the doorway, so they took the sedan and started ramming it,” said David Zheng, who works at the store.
While some of the glass broke, they were unable to create an opening in the doors. Security camera footage then shows two men leaving the car and running away as security alarms go off.
“We do have security gates that go across. They do give, but they don’t break immediately,” said Zheng.
Zheng said they’ve been in touch with Vancouver Police about the incident, and are disheartened at the attention their store has received from thieves.
“We’re a pretty new store, and over the last couple weeks we’ve already lost what we’ve made in a month. It really sucks,” he says.
“We’ve beefed up our security…so we can identify the people trying to get in our place.
“But for now, I guess, we just need a new door.”
