The movie is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Amy Koppelman and follows Laney Brooks, played by Silverman, and her downward spiral in life.

The suburban mother starts off with the ideal life – a loving husband, two kids, and roof over their heads. But later it is revealed that she also has a drug problem, alcohol problem, and adultery problem. The film follows the journey of Koppelman trying to conquer these issues in order to go back to her suburban ways.
