As seen with Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, the idea of method acting is nothing new when it comes to today’s Hollywood actors. Joining the bunch is Ben Foster, who took dangerous measures in order perfect his role as Lance Armstrong in Stephen Frears’ “The Program”, which is set to premiere at TIFF on Sunday.

The 34-year-old actor chose to ingest performance-enhancing drugs in hopes to understand his role on a personal level.
“For my investigation it was important for me privately to understand it. And they work,” he told The Guardian. “Even discussing it feels tricky because it isn’t something I’d recommend to fellow actors.”

Although he fails to mention the name of the drugs used, Foster admits that he’d “only just recovered physically” from the experience. He continues, “There’s a lot of fallout. Doping affects your mind. It doesn’t make you feel high. There are behaviours when you’ve got those chemicals running through your body that serve you on the bike, but which, when you’re not…”
Without a doubt, Ben Foster’s method acting will do “The Program” justice.
