WATCH: Firefighters in Miami rescue kitten trapped in storm drain

Firefighters in Miami came to the rescue of a kitten trapped in a storm drain Monday.

The incident began when a passerby heard the kitten cry for help and alerted authorities.

Miami firefighters arrived Monday morning and could hear the kitten at first, but could not see it.

The kitten was then seen floating in a pile of debris and water from the weekend’s downpours.

“Today, we had a call about a cat stuck in a drain. We came out and used our resources and we were luckily able to get her out,” Javier Corrrales, of Miami Fire Rescue, told Local 10 News in Miami.

“That didn’t work. We used a but more water (and) that scared her and she came out the other side.”

Firefighters needed about 20 minutes to free the kitten, and were able to clean off all the muck attached to its fur.

“She looks like she hasn’t eaten in a while, so I have kitten formula that I keep at the station and I actually gave her formula with a syringe by the mouth,” firefighter Kris Gurucharri said. “She ate it and perked up a bit. I did give her a bath, (because) she was in the storm drain and she was disgusting.”

The kitten has since been named “Storm” for the storm drain from which she was saved.
