WATCH: Keith Jones reports on the neighbour dispute that ended with one man shot and the other in police custody.
A neighbourhood dispute became ugly when one man allegedly shot his neighbour Saturday night in Miami.
According to authorities, 66-year-old Omar Rodriguez became angry when he accused Jose Rey’s dog of attempting to use Rodriguez’s son’s yard to relieve himself.
The two men argued and Rodriguez, who was visiting his son, claims Rey threatened to return for a fight.
As Rey stopped at another neighbour’s house to talk, Rodriguez told police he saw something shiny in Rey’s hand. Rodriguez retrieved a gun from his car and fired at Rey when he thought he saw Rey advance.
Witnesses say Rodriguez shot Rey twice and the arrest report notes that he also threatened to shoot Rey’s wife Lissy.
Rey is now in hospital in critical condition and will require multiple surgeries during his recovery. He suffered abdominal and spinal injuries.

Daniel Garvito, the neighbour who dialled 911, said the neighbourhood felt threatened by Rodriguez.
“I didn’t know if this guy was going to down the whole entire block because he’s been having issues with everyone,” he told NBC.
Despite Rodriguez not living in the neighbourhood, NBC reports that others in Rey’s neighbourhood have filed restraining orders against Rodriguez.
Surveillance video provided by the Miami-Dade police allegedly shows Rodriguez intimidating his neighbours, throwing trash on their lawns and stopping a car to yell obscenities at the driver and passenger.
According to one of Rodriguez’s neighbours, he also felt possessive of the sidewalk that ran through his property.
“He did not like anyone walking on his sidewalk,” an unnamed neighbour told NBC. “He considered it his. And if you walked by, you were able to become a victim of his aggressiveness.”
Rodriguez was taken into custody without bond. On Tuesday, he appeared in court and his charges were upgraded to attempted first-degree murder.
The Rey family has set up a GoFundMe account to help cover the cost of medical expenses.
