WATCH ABOVE: It’s the Montreal SPCA’s special cat adoption day, and as Global’s Kelly Greig reports, many are just looking for a good home.
MONTREAL – Raaj is a quiet, friendly male looking for a longterm partner.
No, this isn’t a dating profile – Raaj and almost 70 other cats are all looking for new homes.
It’s the SPCA’s special cat adoption day, and there are plenty of kitties to go around.
“Summertime is always a more difficult time for shelters,” said the SPCA’s Anita Kapuscinska.

“Moving day is just behind us. We receive three times as many cats as we do any other time of the year. So, unfortunately it’s a little abnormal to have so many cats at the same time.”
With all the choices: male, female, long or short-haired and different breeds, selecting the right cat can be overwhelming.
The SPCA is offering some guidance – acting as a matchmaker, if you will.
The organization has also dropped adoption fees Wednesday from $125 to $50.
While the shelter isn’t full, this is a preventative step to avoid overcrowding.
Most importantly, they all have clean bills of health and are ready to be taken home.
“The cats are sterilized, they’re micro-chipped, they’ve received their basic vaccination,” said Kapuscinska.
“They do have a health guarantee so if they fall ill in the first two to three weeks, we will treat them for you.”
The event takes place Wednesday until 7 p.m. at the Montreal SPCA.
