Motorcycle driver killed in west Edmonton crash was not wearing helmet

EDMONTON — A 38-year-old motorcycle driver died in hospital early Thursday morning after crashing his motorcycle in west Edmonton.

Just before 3 a.m. officers were called to 78th Avenue at 165th Street. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was driving west on the avenue when he crashed into a parked car.

He was treated on scene for life-threatening injuries, but died a short while later in hospital.

The EPS major collision investigation unit was called to the scene. Excessive speed and alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash.

This is the sixth motorcycle fatality of 2015.
