Tuesday the deadliest day on Alberta roads: RCMP

EDMONTON — New numbers released by the RCMP show Tuesday is the deadliest day of the week on Alberta roads.

All of the statistics below pertain only to collisions that happened in areas within RCMP jurisdiction. For example, fatal collisions within the cities of Edmonton or Calgary are not included in the numbers.

Between January 1, 2014 and August 17, 2015, 299 fatal collisions occurred on Alberta roads.

The fatal collisions break down by day as follows:

  • Tuesday – 50
  • Wednesday – 46
  • Thursday – 40
  • Friday – 30
  • Saturday – 49
  • Sunday – 47

  • Evening rush – 85
  • Midday – 60
  • Morning rush – 54
  • Evening – 39
  • Late night – 34
  • Early morning – 27

The number of injury and fatality collisions so far this year have dropped over the same period of time last year, though.

According to Alberta RCMP, 155 people have been killed on provincial roads so far this year. By this time last year, 173 people had lost their lives.

RCMP also said 3,610 people were injured in collisions on provincial roads between January 1 and August 17, 2015. During the same period in 2014, 4,153 people suffered injuries.
