Fatal collision north of Edmonton

WATCH ABOVE: Eight people were killed in collisions on Alberta roads over the past few days. Lisa Wolanksy has the details. 

EDMONTON – One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision north of Edmonton.

Emergency crews were called to the crash shortly after 11 a.m. Monday on Highway 2 between Township Rd. 572 and Highway 651, which is about 50 kilometres north of Edmonton.

Police said a vehicle was heading south on Highway 2 when it swerved into the lane of a northbound semi.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s identity has not been released.

A section of Highway 2 was closed in both directions for several hours Monday. It was reopened Monday afternoon.

Police said a third vehicle was struck with debris from the collision, but no one in the vehicle was injured.

The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision.
