TORONTO – A photo of an orphaned baby kangaroo hugging his teddy bear has won over the Internet.

Tim Beshara, an adviser to Greens senator for Tasmania Peter Whish-Wilson, tweeted the photo of Doodlebug with his bear Tuesday.

“My mum (a wildlife-carer) sent me this. Showing the value of a good hug, especially for an orphaned wallaby,” he tweeted.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, Beshara said his mother, Gillian Abbott, assumed care of Doodlebug in Australia after he was found abandoned as a newborn.

“He may have fallen out of his mother’s pouch or his mother may have died,” Beshara told the British newspaper. “He was a couple of months old when he was passed onto my mother’s wildlife company WIRES.”

Beshara originally said Doodlebug is a baby wallaby, but his mother later corrected him.

“It was pretty embarrassing given my background in science,” he told the Daily Mail.

Despite being in poor health when Doodlebug was found, he has made a full recovery.
