Summary: A strangely-shaped electoral district, Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon is one of six new ridings created in B.C. as a result of redistribution.
Boundaries: Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon includes Matsqui and other rural neighbourhoods in northern Abbotsford, as well as Mission, Agassiz and other small towns north of the Fraser River between Maple Ridge and Hope. But it also includes several small towns in Fraser Canyon hundreds of kilometres from Metro Vancouver, including Lytton, Cache Creek, Ashcroft and Lillooet.
Last Election: This is a new seat created from several different ridings.
Had Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon existed in the last election, the Conservatives would have taken it by 22.5 per cent more votes than the NDP (based on polling results).
History: The southern, more urban region has reliably elected right-wing candidates. The Fraser Canyon region has also supported Conservative candidates for quite some time, but provincially is seen as a swing area.
Demographics: 25.1 per cent of people in this riding are seniors, the third highest number in both the province and in Canada.
