ABOVE WATCH: The Oldman River Valley in Lethbridge is being recognized on a national level, but it needs to your help to get there. Global’s Quinn Campbell reports.
LETHBRIDGE- The river valley in Lethbridge offers so much -the high level bridge, steep coulees and wildlife just to name a few.
Now, thanks to the “Great Places in Canada” competition, the entire country could see what the coulees have to offer.
“It’s really a competition that gets all the different and unique places in our country out onto a stage that everyone can get involved in and vote for their favorite place,” said
Andrew Malcolm with the Planning and Development Services.
The Lethbridge river valley is nominated in the Public Space category, and residents can vote once a day. Malcolm feels the river valley can’t be beat when it comes to diversity.
“There’s a lot of unorganized activities that you can do hiking trails, biking, just enjoying the nature. Whether it’s watching wild life, that type of thing, and there is a ton of organized things like the Helen Schuler Nature Centre and tons of historic sites.”
Sarah Linton has enjoyed the river valley her life and thinks it’s more than deserving of the nomination.
“I just came back from Europe and I just snap chatted about the coulees. I was walking with my dog and I said ‘You guys need to check this out sometime’. So even if it’s just the recognition of it being on a list is a great thing for Lethibridge.”
If you want to vote you can visit www.greatplacesincanada.ca, select public spaces and then make your pick.
The voting is open until the end of September.
