Gallery: Whitney Houston’s funeral service

TORONTO – Whitney Houston’s private funeral service was held February 18 at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.

Houston herself performed in the church as a child, where stars like Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys took to the microphone to sing at the ceremony on Saturday.

While police officers took their posts at memorials outside the building, friends and family-including ex-husband Bobby Brown-arrived for the service.

Brown left near the beginning of the funeral, apparently upset over seating arrangements, according to NBC news.

Newark locals gathered to show their support, and fans in New York City congregated in Times Square to watch the proceedings on the big screen.
