CALGARY – A woman is dead and three others are injured after a four-vehicle crash on Highway 1 east of Calgary Friday afternoon.
EMS initially reported an infant in the same car as the woman later died of injuries. RCMP said the infant remained alive as of 5:30 p.m.
EMS said a woman in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and an adult male was in critical condition. A third person, the driver of that car, has since been released from hospital.
The driver of another vehicle involved in the crash also suffered from serious injuries. There were no injuries for the occupants of the other two vehicles involved.
The crash happened at around 2 p.m. on Highway 1 near Garden Road.
The intersection at Highway 1 and Garden Road was expected to remain closed for five to six hours, and the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 will be closed for an “undetermined period” of time, officials said.
“This situation is causing considerable delays and motorists are asked to use alternate routes,” said Strathmore RCMP in a release.
