CALGARY- About 700 people were evacuated from the Standard Life Tower in Calgary on Thursday morning over reports of a possible explosion.
Fire officials say crews were called to 639 5 Avenue S.W. at about 10:15 a.m. after a loud sound was heard coming from the building’s mechanical room. A building worker closed the door to the room and pulled the fire alarm.

When crews arrived, they discovered an electrical problem. The Calgary Fire Department says the building is currently being powered by a backup generator in order to maintain life safety systems as well as elevators. Fire officials say the building’s air conditioning has been compromised, and as a result, some employees may not be allowed back in the building on Thursday.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
