CALGARY – A Rocky View County man has been ticketed for speeding and careless driving after he was caught driving 222 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
At about 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the 44-year-old was driving along Big Hill Springs Road northeast of Cochrane when he was spotted by an officer.
He was driving a black Nissan Maxima.
The added charge of careless driving was because the man had overtaken a marked Rocky View County Fire Services vehicle in the area on an unrelated matter.
“It’s concerning that we seem to be facing more incidents of people driving at extreme speeds on public roads,” said Lorraine Wesley-Riley, Rocky View County’s Manager of Enforcement Services in a release.
“It’s incredibly dangerous, and the risk of harm to other innocent drivers and pedestrians is completely unacceptable.”
The man will appear in Cochrane court in August.
