WINNIPEG — Maybe the 3rd time is the charm. The Baltimore Orioles have selected Winnipeg’s Chris Shaw in the Major League Baseball draft. The Orioles used their 15th round pick in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft to select Shaw 463rd overall. It’s the third time he’s been drafted by a major league club after turning down previous offers to finish his university career.

Shaw, 21, was re-entering the draft after the Milwaukee Brewers originally grabbed him in the 2012 MLB Draft. That year he was taken in the 38th round, 1175th overall. He was drafted again in 2014 where the St. Louis Cardinals used their 14th round pick on the Manitoba born catcher.
The right handed hitting Shaw first joined the Canadian Junior team in 2010. He was playing at the University of Oklahoma for the Sooners. Shaw is the first Manitoban to play baseball in the Big 12 Conference.
