REGINA – Classes resumed as normal following a lockdown at Yorkton Regional High School on Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:20 p.m., Yorkton RCMP say there were reports of a man in the school possibly carrying a handgun while wearing a shirt on his head as a bandana.

The school was placed under lockdown for more about two hours, according to Good Spirit School Division spokesperson Lynel Martinuk. All Yorkton elementary schools and Melville Comprehensive School were also under lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Yorkton RCMP called it “hold and secure” mode, where outside doors are locked but students can move freely throughout the school.

“The situation is under control and a suspect is in custody,” Martinuk said immediately after the lockdown was lifted. “Right now we’re getting a hold of parents, telling them everything is fine.”

Martinuk says afternoon classes and bus schedules resumed “as usual.” No one at the school was injured.

Parkland College tweeted its campus nearby was under a partial lockdown.

Three people arrested

RCMP say they found and arrested a man wearing his shirt as a bandana at the intersection of Darlington Street and Victoria Avenue. Another man and woman were taken into custody from a residence in the 0-100 block of 3rd Avenue in Yorkton.
