Heavy rainfall expected across southern Manitoba Tuesday

Southern Manitoba is expected to be hit by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Tuesday. Global News

WINNIPEG – Southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Brandon, is expected to receive 25 to 45 millimetres of rain Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, Environment Canada says.

“Although rainfall totals will be below warning criteria, there will be a significant amount,” a special weather statement from the weather agency says. “There will also be embedded thunderstorms with the rain, which will cause locally higher amounts.”

Rainfall amounts will be variable, Environment Canada said, with areas caught under slow-moving thunderstorms likely to pick up 50 mm of rain in a short period of time. That is most likely to happen in southeastern Manitoba.
