Alcohol, speed, suspected as factors in Calgary crash that killed two people

CALGARY – Charges of impaired driving causing death have been laid after a t-bone collision at a Calgary intersection that killed two people.

The crash happened early Sunday morning in a northwest neighbourhood when a Toyota Yaris was allegedly driven through a red light at high speed before it slammed into a Mercedes sedan.

Danielle Russell, a 21-year-old who was passenger in the first car, and Arshdeep Brar, the 20-year-old driver and lone occupant of the sedan, were killed.

Both were from Calgary.

A 25-year-old Calgary woman who was also in the Yaris suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Amie Nottebrock is also facing two counts of dangerous driving causing death.
