New Alert Ready emergency warning system to be tested Wednesday

WINNIPEG — It’s a sight and sound Manitobans should pay attention to.

Alert Ready is an emergency alert system that will cut into radio and television programming to tell people about an immediate threat to safety.

“This will make a real difference,” said Manitoba Emergency Measures Minister Steve Ashton.

A test of the system will happen Wednesday at 1:58 p.m.

In the future it can be used for severe weather, flash floods, wildfires and biohazards.

The system is run by the Weather Network and developed with the help of various levels of government.

It was mandated by the CRTC.
