WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Jets’ captain Andrew Ladd has been chosen as a finalist for the National Hockey League’s Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award. The honour is given “to the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice, during the regular season.”

Ladd is among three players nominated for the award including Winnipeg’s Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and Ryan Getzlaf of the Anaheim Ducks.

Ladd has captained the Jets franchise for the past five seasons. He recently set new career highs for assists with 38 and points with 62, helping the Jets to their best season in franchise history. Ladd’s leadership extends off the ice as well and he partners with Special Olympics for a variety of functions.

Mark Messier not only selects the three finalists but also chooses the winner himself. Los Angeles Kings’ captain Dustin Brown won the award in 2014. The winner will be announced at the NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas on June 24.
