‘Vikings’ star Alexander Ludwig among Golden Maple Awards nominees

TORONTO — Three stars of Vikings and stars from HavenLost Girl and Rookie Blue have been nominated for 2015 Golden Maple Awards, which recognize Canadians in shows that are broadcast south of the border.

B.C. native Alexander Ludwig of Vikings is vying for Best Actor in a TV Series along with Orangeville, Ont. native Adam Copeland of Haven. They are up against stars of Bitten, Reign, The Book of Negroes and Graceland.

Vikings stars Jessalyn Gilsig of Montreal and Katheryn Winnick of Toronto are nominated in the Best Actress in a TV Series category along with Fredricton native Anna Silk of Lost Girl and Missy Peregrym of Rookie Blue. Other nominees are in Hannibal, Murder in the First and Silicon Valley.

Newcomer of the year nominees include Montreal-born Emily Hampshire of 12 Monkeys.

The awards, from the L.A.-based Academy of Canadians in Sports & Entertainment, will be handed out on July 1.

Vikings airs in Canada on History; Haven and Lost Girl air on Showcase; and Rookie Blue airs on Global. All are part of Shaw Media, parent company of Global News.
