Quebec to abolish AMT, create two new organizations

MONTREAL – Come Monday, the Quebec government is expected to announce that it will abolish the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).

It will be replaced by both the Réseau des transports métropolitains (RTM) and the Agence régionale de transport (ART).

The RTM will manage trains going to and from the island – it will not affect the STM, RTL or STL transportation systems.

The ART will be an organization headed by elected officials and government experts to focus on future planning.

AMT spokesperson Fannie St-Pierre told the Canadian Press that the changes will not affect public transport users.

“We have an excellent collaboration with Minister of Transport, Robert Poeti, and with the cabinet,” she said.

About 400 people work for the AMT.
