SASKATOON – If you get a parking ticket after using one of Saskatoon’s new pay stations, don’t expect to get notice of your infraction in the mail. City officials say provincial legislation doesn’t allow them to send tickets through regular mail but claim it is a non-issue at the moment.
While the system is capable of issuing tickets by mail, which is the case in cities with similar systems like Calgary, local officials say that method may not save taxpayers money.
“Either system, we’re going to need people, and on the mail side, we’re going to need people behind the scenes that are processing the data a day after and are determining if tickets should be issued and doing all that,” said Andrew Hildebrandt, the city’s director of community standards.
“At this point it wouldn’t be assumed that it would actually make it more efficient staff wise for us.”

According to officials, the system can adapt to multiple methods of parking enforcement but say they are not in a hurry to move towards mailing out parking tickets.
