CALGARY- A pair of Calgary brothers are facing multiple charges in connection with a major drug and weapons seizure.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says it concluded a two-week investigation on March 25 that culminated in the seizure of $408,000 worth of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana. They say four guns were also seized, including two that were previously reported as stolen.
ALERT says the seizure occurred when a search warrant was executed in the northeast community of Coventry Hills.
“Fentanyl itself has become a province-wide problem, and this seizure further demonstrates ALERT’s commitment to targeting these individuals and these organized crime groups that deal with these deadly pills,” said Sgt. Keith Hurly.
Thirty-three-year-old Timothy Sawatzky of Calgary has been charged with drug trafficking, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and four counts of breach of recognizance.
A warrant has been issued for his brother, 35-year-old Nathan Sawatzky, on four charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order, and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.
