Man charged in Calgary airport drug seizure

CALGARY – A 26-year-old man is facing charges after officers seized what is suspected to be heroin from a suitcase at the Calgary International Airport.

The drugs were discovered by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on May 24th.

The suspect was returning to Canada via Frankfurt, Germany when CBSA officers opted for a more in-depth examination of his luggage.

They found the suitcase had a false bottom, and discovered over six pounds of narcotics inside.

RCMP have charged 26-year-old Charles Roger Mukwaaya with two counts under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 30, 2014.

This is second heroin seizure for the CBSA in Calgary this year.

Since the start of the year, officers at the airport have made 60 drug seizures totaling 11 kilograms of narcotics.
