5 arrested in heroin seizure at Calgary airport

The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) has seized almost a kilogram of black tar heroin at Calgary International Airport .

The CBSA says more than 900 grams of heroin was concealed on or inside the bodies of four people returning from Mexico.

A fifth person accused of involvement in the drug smuggling has also been arrested

Arnold Geiven Marin, Haley Rowett, Heather Lyndsay McKay, Christopher Velenosi and Alvaro Martinez have all been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“Concealing narcotics internally is an extremely dangerous practice for the courier, regardless of how well the narcotics are wrapped,” said Lauren D. Delgaty of the CBSA . “As a result of these interceptions, CBSA officers have not only delivered on our mandate, but they also helped to potentially save the lives of these individuals.”

Black tar heroin is a cheap form of heroin that is primarily produced in Mexico.
