Heroin seizure at Calgary airport

CALGARY – A 44-year-old man is facing charges after what is suspected to be heroin was seized from two suitcases at the Calgary International Airport.

The suspect was returning to Canada via London on January 31st when CBSA officers opted for a more in-depth examination of his baggage due to how heavy it was.

“When we lift bags every day you can appreciate that we understand and have a really good feeling for how heavy a certain type of bag should be,” says Lisa White, CBSA.

After using an x-ray to view the bag, officials say they found sophisticated false bottoms in each of his two suitcases, in which they discovered 6.7 kg of suspected heroin.

Rashid Abdulla Mussa was arrested and turned over to RCMP.

He faces two counts under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
