Canadians Jason Thompson, Margot Kidder up for Daytime Emmy awards

TORONTO — Canadian actors Jason Thompson and Margot Kidder and two made-in-Canada series are among the nominees announced Tuesday for the 42nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Thompson, a native of Alberta, is nominated as best actor in a drama series for his work as Dr. Patrick Drake on General Hospital. The 38-year-old from St. Albert has been nominated four times since 2011.

Yellowknife-born Kidder earned a nod as Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series for R. L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour.

The Vancouver-shot series is up for a total of six awards, including Outstanding Children’s Series. It is tied with made-in-Toronto Odd Squad.

Long-running soap operas The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives collected 25 and 16 nominations respectively. They will take on General Hospital, which has a leading 28 nominations, and The Bold and the Beautiful for best drama series.

Nominees for best game show were Family Feud, Jeopardy! and The Price is Right.

Entertainment Tonight is up for Outstanding Entertainment News Show.

Nominees for best entertainment talk show include The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live! With Kelly and Michael and The Talk.

The Daytime Emmys will be handed out April 26 in Burbank, California.
