TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday morning they had signed an 11-year-old Saskatchewan boy to a one-day contract. Garrett Gamble is from Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation and loves hockey.

After applying to the Children’s Wish Foundation, his dream of hanging out with his favourite hockey team with his family came true this weekend.

Gamble was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder known as Morquio Syndrome in 2004. Morquio Syndrome patients lack an enzyme that breaks down cellular waste which builds up and can lead to serious medical complications.

He dropped the puck for the ceremonial faceoff and met some of his favourite players like Tyler Bozak, Dion Phaneuf, and Phil Kessel before their Saturday night game against the Ottawa Senators.
