Lindenwoods fire pegged at $3 million

Just days before Christmas one Winnipeg family is starting over after losing virtually everything.   

“They have nothing they only have the clothes on their back I ran over some boots and socks for the father he had nothing, and a jacket the mom only had pajamas and that was it,” said neighbour Darcey Cameron. 

After 7:30 a.m. Friday morning fire crews responded to a massive blaze that was already on its way to consuming the two story home in Linden Woods.

“There was total fire involvement in the front where the garage is and the fire was extending into the roof space and the front entrance,” said Winnipeg Fire Department chief Ted Kuryluk. 

The home belongs to Edward Kennedy and his wife Stella.  He the president and CEO of Northwest Company and serves on the boards of numerous community organizations including the campaign chair of the United Way and Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council.

“I was blown away by how the flames seemed to engulf the home in a matter of mere minutes it was unbelievable,” family friend, Darcey Cameron. 

Kennedy his wife and two of their children were home when the fire started. Fortunately the entire family and their dog escaped the blaze unharmed but fire officials say there’s nothing left to save and the home be completely demolished. 

Damage is estimated at $3-million, investigators say the flames were sparked by a heater in the garage.
