The Vancouver Canucks took a big step in securing a place in the 2014-2015 playoffs with a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings Saturday afternoon.
Radim Vrbata scored his team-leading 27th goal on the powerplay 4:31 into the third period to give Vancouver the lead, and Eddie Lack made several big saves down the stretch to secure the win.

Los Angeles’ Marian Gaborik scored the first goal of the game 24 seconds into the second period, but Nick Bonino tied the game with five minutes to go in the period. Daniel Sedin and Bo Horvat also added empty-net goals.

It was Vancouver’s first win against the Kings this season after losses to the defending Stanley Cup champions in November, January and March. The teams meet once more this season, April 6 in Vancouver.
With the win, the Canucks have 86 points in 71 games (41-26-4) and strengthened their hold on second place in the Pacific Division. Los Angeles remains in fourth place in the division with 82 points (34-23-14), while Calgary is third in the division.
