MONTREAL — Emergency services are at the scene after a man fell through the ice on the St. Lawrence River in Lachine Wednesday afternoon.
According to Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux, two witnesses, a man and a woman, called 911 after seeing a man fall through the ice near Parc St. Louis, just off St. Joseph Boulevard and 34th Avenue.
He then disappeared under the water.
When emergency services arrived, the two witnesses were transferred to hospital to be treated for shock.
A Montreal police boat was still searching the river for any signs of the body at 4:30 p.m.
Investigators could be seen poking and prodding under the ice.
An ambulance is standing by, but firefighters are no longer at the scene.
