TORONTO — Canada’s 45th annual celebration of music is saddling up for 2016 in Calgary.
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced Friday next year’s JUNO Awards will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome on April 3, 2016.
It will be the first time the city has hosted the JUNOs since 2008. Russell Peters hosted the show, which featured performances by Michael Bublé, Avril Lavigne and hometown singer Paul Brandt.

“Calgary’s unparalleled enthusiasm and famous hospitality make it the ultimate host for Canada’s Music Awards,” said Allan Reid, president & CEO of CARAS, in a release.
“The city’s musical talent and passionate fans have only heightened the success of Canadian music and we are excited for what’s in store when we return in 2016 to celebrate the 45th annual JUNO Awards.”
In the same release, Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi called the JUNOs “a tremendous opportunity for Calgary and our music and culture scene.”
Cindy Ady, CEO of Tourism Calgary said it’s fitting the JUNOs will be held in Calgary the same year the city opens the National Music Centre.
This year’s JUNO Awards, hosted by Jacob Hoggard, will be broadcast March 15 from Hamilton, Ont. Calgary-born singer Kiesza and Alberta’s Nickelback are among the nominees.
