TORONTO – The construction of the 2015 Pan Am Games Athletes’ Village is officially finished.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory made the official handover announcement at a ceremony inside the complex Friday morning.
The Village will house close to 10,000 athletes for the event which takes place July 10-26 for the Pan Am Games and Aug. 7-15 for the Parapan Am Games.
The site will have banking facilities, a YMCA, coffee shop, general store, a dining tent and an 18 acre park.
The Village is located on an 80-acre site next to the West Don Lands in Toronto’s waterfront area.
Once the event is over, the Village will become a mixed-use neighbourhood with affordable housing, new condominiums, a YMCA and a dormitory for George Brown College students.
According to the province, the breakdown includes 100 affordable ownership condos and townhouses and 253 affordable rental units.
