Man charged in Whitehorn homicide makes first court appearance

CALGARY – A man charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Calgary mother made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Police arrested 25-year-old Curtis Jade Tyson Healy on Saturday, using tips from the public to track him down.

He’s accused of killing 31-year-old Dawns Echoes Baptiste, whose body was found in the backyard of a Whitehorn home on February 12th.

On Tuesday, Baptiste’s friends and family gathered at the Calgary Courts Centre to watch Healy’s first appearance.

The 25-year-old appeared via CCTV from the Calgary Remand Centre, but his case was put over for one week to allow him time to get a lawyer.

Baptiste’s brother spoke outside court saying his sister had just landed a part-time job with a construction company and was working to regain custody of her four children.
