CALGARY – The Homicide Unit is investigating the murder of a 31-year-old old woman in the northeast community of Whitehorn.
The victim was identified by police Friday evening as Dawns Echoes Baptiste, 31, of no fixed address in Calgary. She’s described as 5’5” with a medium build and brown hair with blond highlights. Police said she was wearing a red winter jacket with a hood, black sweatpants and tan-coloured work boots; she also wears eye glasses.
Police were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Whitworth Road N.E. on Thursday around 3 p.m. for a check on welfare. When they arrived, officers discovered Baptiste lying unresponsive in the backyard of the home. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene; cause of death has not yet been released.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen Baptiste in the last week, or anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You can also text tttTIPS to 274637.
Police said earlier Friday the details about the exact circumstances surrounding her death are limited, and they don’t have any suspects at this time.
“It creeps me out,” says area resident Rebecca Rota. “I lock my door at night, but I don’t normally lock it during the day – and I’m going to start locking my door now.”
This is Calgary’s fifth homicide of 2015.
