Kelowna woman wants dead grandmother’s stolen documents returned

The maroon Ford King Rancher that was stolen from a Best Western parking lot on February 14, 2015. Corri Adamson says her deceased grandmother's documents were inside a white duffel bag when it was stolen.

For 10 days, Corri Adamson had been in Metro Vancouver to take care of her dying grandmother.

She died yesterday after several days in a Port Moody hospice, but when Adamson woke up this morning, her tragedy became a nightmare.

All of her grandmother’s documents – including her taxes, birth certificate, funeral arrangements and pension information – were in her truck, which was stolen when she was sleeping.

“It feels like a big kick in the pants,” says Adamson, who had borrowed her friend’s maroon Ford King Ranch to make the trip from Kelowna.

“She gave me one job to do, and that was to take of everything when she passed. Now it’s going to be a full time job, just replacing that stuff so I can finalize everything.”

The truck, with license plate number BW-0076, was in the parking lot of the Best Western Inn on Kingsway where she was staying. Other residents told her they heard a vehicle leave around 5:30 a.m., but Adamson didn’t wake up until an hour later.

“Trucks can be replaced, but those documents can’t be. We really need them,” she says.

“Bring them to the police, drop them off at a store, tell the store, put in a mailbox, anything. It’s in a white duffel bag. It’s useless to them, but to me it’s pretty much everything.”

She’s particularly concerned about funeral documents for Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

“She took care of that in 1957, bought the plots…it’s all paid for, pre-arranged. I’m hoping the funeral home has those papers from way back when, because they’re pretty old,” she said.

If you see the truck or have any idea where it might be, Adamson asks that you phone RCMP.
